With a long history of guided hunting which goes back to the 1800s the Chilcotin Ark possesses a rich hunting history and continuing legacy. This region is among the few places that has been providing consistent trophies for over 140 years. The Chilcotin Ark is renowned for its classic Bighorn sheep, mountain goats and mule deer, with thousands of alpine basins that we access on horseback. To honour the legacy of the region and ensure that we can provide high quality wilderness hunts for years to come, we manage the Chilcotin Ark responsibly and with great diligence, making conservation a priority in all that we do.
Our family has been guiding hunters in the Chilcotin Ark of British Columbia since 1918 with third and fourth generation Bracewells now guiding.
Gerry Bracewell, the first female guide outfitter in BC in 1945 was the longest in the guide outfitting business for 80 years. She was the oldest in the business at one hundred and one. She set the standard for many female guides that work with BCTMO Conservation Club and all over British Columbia.
We are a family friendly outfit where we encourage female hunters as well as the spouses and family members of our hunters to join the hunt in whatever capacity they are interested. This could be introducing kids or grand kids to their first hunt, having a hunter’s spouse along as an observer, or family enjoying activities at the ranch while the hunter is out hunting. Our most successful hunts are often a husband and wife hunting together.
Gerry Bracewell emphasized the importance of conservation in hunting from the beginning. From population counts during the hunt to mountain goat and sheep transplants, Gerry initiated conservation practices that are a part of every hunt with us. We document the wildlife we see on every hunt, and collect grizzly hair and mountain goat feces for DNA sampling for just a few examples. We donate hunts every year to conservation organizations who in turn contribute to conservation of the Chilcotin Ark. Our clients contribute 5% of their hunt cost to conservation in the Chilcotin Ark also.
At BCTMO Conservation Club, conservation is the driving factor for everything we do. We operate in the “Give-Back” Stage of the “6 Stages of a Hunter“ and seek to attract these people in our clients. We use the North American Wildlife Conservation model in our stewardship. We contribute to on-the-ground conservation projects by data collection on hunts.
We contribute to habitat enhancement through consultation with other resource users. We create an immersive hunting experience with a nature connection and conservation impact. We educate our clients and the public about sustainable, responsible hunting and the benefits of this to the ecosystem and conservation while practising this ourselves.

Every one of our guides has been thoroughly trained in the unique aspects of guiding in BC. Newer guides work side-by-side with our more seasoned guides, which allows them to learn the terrain, trails, camps, and, most importantly, the behaviour of our local wildlife. Our guides possess the experience and know-how to hunt all species in their areas, making our unique multi-species combination hunts possible. Our guides are true outdoorsmen in every way. Many of them are avid fishermen, trappers, and sought-after specialists in mountain goat and mule deer hunting. All our guides are highly experienced in our stewardship work and are dedicated to conserving this internationally ecologically important ecosystem.
Some of our guides even have degrees in Wildlife and Forestry Management.
Having charted and explored the mountains of the Chilcotin Ark for over a century, BCTMO Conservation Club and our guides knows every trail, every mountain pass and every secret route in the area.
